In between exams, we review. And in between review sessions, we indulge in HappySlip. :))
I started falling in love with her videos when I watched French Fries. Anyway, try watching her videos. If you’re for clean humor, click click! (I know she’s been there for some time now, plus she’s been featured in the news, etc., but I never really had interest until I ran through her channel.)
Things I learned from HappySlip:
- All of us are slowly dying each day.
- Smooth peanut butter is for the timid and weak.
- Pork rinds aren’t good for you.
- Everything in life is a distraction.
- Strawberry jam is for those who flee and forsake.
*** My favorite HappySlip series is called Soap Opera. It started from her video titled “Instant Vlogging,” but the story surfaced in Soap Opera #2 up to Soap Opera #7. I embedded the series here, for those who haven’t tried watching her videos yet. Enjoy! I’m sure you will. :)) (more…)

UPDATED! I came across something called Aristotle’s Wheel Paradox long before. As the larger wheel rolls from to
, the smaller wheel rolls from
to
. If the larger wheel rolls without slipping, there is, at any given time, a point on the circumference of the larger wheel touching
, and at the same time, there is a point at the circumference of the small wheel touching
. So every point in the large wheel can be mapped with every point in the small wheel. Would this show that the two circumferences are equal?
I got two answers to this paradox. (more…)

I received my first credit card billing yesterday. I have no idea how credit cards were billed, and I was surprised that every transaction was itemized — I thought only the total amount would appear, which would have been weird, by the way. My mom was there and so, she knew (and questioned) every restaurant transaction I had last week, though she wasn’t furious. Well, I made excuses, given that last week is still my birthday week, and blah blah. No regrets still, my business transactions need not be private, especially to my mom.
Speaking of credit cards (and bills, interest, etc.) Dr. Jose Maria Escaner accepted my requested to be his thesis advisee. [Background info: I am enjoying Math 162 more than any other subject this term, and I want to have my undergrad research on this field; plus he was recommended by Juvelene Itum (UP Valedictorian 2005), Carmel Felicitas (UP Math Club former Secretary) and Patrick Lubenia (a nobody).] We were set to meet on the morning of March 18 to get started, at least, with some topics. I forgot that we’re supposed meet, however, and that I had classes, too. To cut the story short, I met him in the afternoon, with Phia, and started, even though I wasn’t ready. Don’t get it wrong; had I not forgotten the meeting, my only time available would still have been in the afternoon.
As of now, I don’t have a topic yet. I’m still looking for one.
Well, Dr. Escaner asked me to look for some topics in the internet while we were meeting yesterday. Since I was not in the mood for anything related to my research yet, I did it quite passively and ended up getting a discussion manuscript instead of a publication. He didn’t seem satisfied, too, with the results of my ’searches’, but he still asked whether I liked what I found. I frankly said no, but I promised that I’ll follow it up once I got home, and that I ‘d still have to attend my 123.2 class and I have to leave. I left the room without anything accomplished, compared to Phia and Francis already dealing with publications involving 29 differential equations. I don’t want something like that. I like 30.
I’m narrowing my search on Processes involving Stochastic models. It’s kinda cool to do a research on Stochastic processes when it’s a fact that the current industry uses a different kind of approach — they rely on Deterministic models. A deterministic model is one in which every set of variable states is uniquely determined by parameters in the model and by sets of previous states of these variables. Therefore, deterministic models perform the same way for a given set of initial conditions. Conversely, in a stochastic model, randomness is present, and variable states are not described by unique values, but rather by probability distributions.
There are lots of publications available from the Society of Actuaries, and Dr. Escaner recommended that I search there. I’m doing it now and I can’t understand the depth of the mathematics involved. (Not yet!) Haha. Perhaps, it will continue like this until I get a PhD. Or forever. Haha. Kidding.

I don’t understand why people challenge our own society’s arrangements, when in fact they themselves are ‘unarranged’. We shouldn’t always point out everything we don’t like, and then exempt ourselves from it. That would be dull.
And wonder why we have unintelligent social arrangements.
Ack, I need some help. Maybe a better program that will progress with every recursion. It’s tiring to see every cycle end up worse, but with some relative maximums giving you a bit hope; nonetheless, ending up unimaginable. Maybe before helping others, we should help ourselves. Or much better, instead of helping others, teach them to help themselves. (Alip Oropeza, 2008) I’m growing tired of this recursive cycle which I hope wouldn’t diverge like explicit heat equations when CFL conditions are not satisfied. I think I should just translate myself into an implicit form, which of more variable yet more complex. We all should, says me – another part of this multi-faceted society.
Yeah, sure, everyone hates this kind of post. I just want to share some things that transcribed within my last week. (Ack! I just sat down in front of the PC to look for additional problem exercises regarding Sinking Funds for my Math 162 exam tomorrow, and then I’m doing this.)
Here!
Kuya Patrick’s birthday greeting was in the form of an academic presentation. He added a slide, greeting me a happy birthday to his Beamer, and he addressed his greeting during the colloquium, which happens to be my birthday. Haha! I was touched, and then started freaking out when I saw the names of the examiners there. (Click on the image to see better.)
Finally! After three years, I am now taking Communication 3 this summer. But I want to enlist in PI 100 this summer, too.
Recently, I expressed my disappointment (not just through this site) regarding Break the Ice’s video. Perhaps, I was just — not expecting it. Looking back, the video was cool; it wasn’t just an animé, it was … (I’m out of words.) ..not disappointing after all! I think of it as an animation of her Toxic video, but without the jeweled body. (Click on the pic to watch the video.)
Most of my classmates might be wondering why Bb. Pilipinas-World Janina San Miguel wasn’t in this list. Well, her response in the Q&A didn’t really made me happy (though it seems like it), it just made me restless. And her answer wasn’t really funny for me. What I found truly entertaining is her style of speaking when she said, “No, I’m not feeling any pressure right now.” And, Jeannie Anderson was funnier for me. Quiet please.

I was so disappointed when the music video for Break the Ice turned out to be just some cartoon rendering instead of an actual video. Watch it here. *sigh*
I watched it today at around 8:15AM and it pulled my mood down. It soured my day. *sigh*
With our sincerest hearts, we are thanking the students of the UP College of Science for making this election an effective one.
- For the first time in CS history, the voters’ turnout managed to get over the 50% mark. [UPDATED! Sorry, it only reached a modest 48%, still a lot better than previous years' 30%-40%.]
- Personally, for believing in MATTER; our deepest gratitude for trusting the next school year’s student council in our hands. Thank you for voting for MATTER. For everyone in MATTER. Rest assured, we will go the extra kilometer (S.I.) in bringing up what’s best of students’ interest.
Corndog, or popularly Hotdog waffle to Filipinos, was today’s snack, and as I was not that desperate for some internet munching, I was the one who prepared everything. I bought the ingredients from a nearby grocery and started cooking.
Here are the ingredients I used. Note that this is not gourmet food. It isn’t even traditional food since I only used instant mixes to make everything, uhm.. easier. :)
- 400 grams (2 packs) hotcake/waffle mix
- 2 whole eggs
- 1 cup water
- 4 tbsps. vegetable oil
- 9 hotdogs, regular sized, halved; or 18 cocktail size

This weekend has been a moment of reflection for me. For one thing, it’s almost the end of the election period. Then there just exist moments in your silence when you’re too anxious about something; and that you can’t do anything about everything around you. I can’t understand. My emotions are restless lately. But I won’t say I’m suffering.
I read an article this morning which helped me cope with the surrounding world. Not much help (of course) with my current situation, just that it helped me realize things that I experienced before and taught me something for the future ahead. Here’s the article: (more…)
